The fees are per academic year. Please note that fees go up each year. Competence in a South East Asian language is developed as a tool for exploring the culture for which a spoken language is a vehicle. The syllabus introduces its subject through the broad media of language, culture, literature and cinema with options also to gain knowledge of South East Asian history, politics, economics, linguistics, religious studies, music, art and archaeology, anthropology and others. This degree is ideal for students who do not seek the intensive engagement with language demanded by the four-year degrees, but who desire a working knowledge of the language to enhance their engagement with the diversity of South East Asian culture.
Goethe-Universität — Southeast Asian Studies (Master of Arts)
The aim of this website is to provide a focal point for the general public, professors and students of McGill University and prospective students with an interest in Southeast Asian studies. This site contains information regarding work on Southeast Asian related topics being conducted at McGill University and provides useful links to other Southeast Asian programmes and websites elsewhere in the world in order to stimulate education and scholarship. We hope individuals accessing this website will learn more about each other and make connections that would perhaps otherwise not be possible. We hope that this site will act as a starting point for scholars with an interest in a certain field of research at McGill whether it be for potential graduate students seeking out professors regarding graduate work or for meeting other scholars working in Southeast Asia.
CUL - Main Content
Students on the programme come from a wide range of backgrounds. Some come into the programme having acquired an interest in South East Asia during their undergraduate career or as a result of travelling in the region. The programme also attracts mature students: some take the MA as a partial preparation for employment in the region; others, having lived in South East Asia for a number of years, seek to place their experience and impressions into a more structured, analytical framework.
